Trail Improvements at Fernilee Reservoir

16 April 2019

Soon visitors to the beautiful Fernilee reservoir in the Goyt Valley will be able to enjoy improved access to the peaceful waterside trail on the east side of the reservoir. This improved access-for-all route will allow for easier passage for those with mobility issues and will make enjoying the beautiful scenery more relaxing and easier to experience.

As part of this project, resurfacing work will be undertaken along the track from the week beginning 15 April and extending into early May. This work will result in temporary blockages along the trail as machinery is working. Visitors are encouraged to use alternative routes along the west side of the reservoir where access will be unaffected and a pleasant stroll through the woodlands can be enjoyed with a minimal detour.

This work is supported by funding from Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund and the National Lottery Heritage Fund with the assistance of partners United Utilities and the Peak District National Park Authority. Trail resurfacing along this track is part of the South West Peak Landscape Partnership project Better Outside and will make the upgraded route part of the Miles without Stiles offering.

The goal of the Better Outside project is to improve visitor experiences throughout the countryside of the South West Peak. This wide-reaching project is working to improve access in a number of areas for those who wish to fully enjoy the outdoors but are dealing with health or mobility issues.
