Grasses, sedges and rushes constitute a significant proportion of our British flora. Often they are indicators that allow the recognition of different plant communities or habitats. However, they can look very similar and can thus be seen as problematic to distinguish and identify.

This workshop will examine the structures and characters of each family and familiarise participants with terminology commonly used in guides and keys. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to recognise some of the commoner species and be able to use a key to identify others.
