Grassland Restoration - plot creation & seed sowing

Glorious Grasslands
Event Name Grassland Restoration - plot creation & seed sowing
Start Date 27th Sep 2019 10:00 am
End Date 27th Sep 2019 4:00 pm
Duration 6 hours
Description

The Glorious Grasslands' team of volunteers has been working hard all summer collecting and processing wildflower seed. It's now time to get that seed on the ground to give the plant species every chance to succeed in establishing!

We have a number of sites where you can get involved in the practical restoration of grasslands and help to restore wildflower species back into meadows. It's hugely satisfying and rewarding to be part of, so please sign up if you can.

What does it involve?

Some of it will involve hard work, but there are enough tasks to suit all levels of physical fitness, so don't let that put you off! If you can't come for the whole activity, then please offer any time you can.

  • Strimming plots of 2 x 4 m (note only those qualified will be able to operate the strimmers).
  • Scarifying the plots by hand.
  • Sowing a prepared mix of seed onto the plots.
  • Sowing seed across wider areas of the meadows.
  • Recording the GPS location of each plot & marking on a map.

Where?

Under Whitle Farm (Dove Valley Centre), Longnor, Buxton, SK17 0PR. Meet at the entrance to the farm. Parking is available on the roadside with a few spaces for cars in the top field.

Please bring a packed lunch, suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. All equipment will be provided, but we will be outside for the duration of the activity. Access to toilets may be limited, depending on the site. In the event of heavy rain the activity may be cancelled, so please ensure we have up to date contact details for you, as any decision to cancel may be made at short notice.
